Last week, California’s Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) announced a $15.9 million grant awarded to Israeli-based Brainstorm Cell Therapeutics. The grant will support a Phase III study for a stem cell based treatment of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. The Israel Economic Mission to the West Coast was instrumental in creating the platform in which Israeli companies can be eligible to apply for such grants. Israel’s public sector is committed to creating pathways for commercial success and this is only the beginning of a lasting partnership with the State of California.
